A letter to the teachers of English: 62 Develop writing skills of ...
I am afraid I am not writing much about the development of writing skills of our learners; this does not mean that writing skills are less important than other skills in English. In the next few letters, I will share with you some of my ideas about the development of writing skills.
Writing skills are one the most important language skills for Yemeni learners of English, next only to the reading skills, as they have more opportunities to read and write than to communicate in English orally in their life in the future, as users of English, though many of them do not realize this fact and have a craze for spoken English. In many cases, writing overtakes reading in terms of their needs; for example, in office work as employees, in business transactions as business persons, in filling up forms of various kinds as citizens, in writing notes, research papers and books as academics etc.
Writers take note of class
WRITING enthusiasts are being urged to attend a new season of meetings of the Midlothian Writers' Group. The group, based at Dalkeith Library, helps aspiring writers develop their style and improve the standard of their creative writing. Councillor Bob Jenkins, Midlothian Council's leisure spokesman, said: "Working through the writers' group means that each writer benefits from the interest, constructive criticism and experience of other group members. No charge is made for joining the group." The Midlothian Writers' Group will meet fortnightly on Wednesdays from 7.00pm at Dalkeith Library from tonight until June. Casey Favors Smaller Troop Boost in Iraq
WASHINGTON - The top U.S. commander in Iraq told a Senate panel Thursday that improving security in Baghdad would take fewer than half as many extra troops as President Bush has chosen to commit.Testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee on his nomination to be Army chief of staff, Gen. George Casey said he had asked for two additional Army brigades, based on recommendations of his subordinate commanders. Bush announced Jan. 10 that he would send five extra brigades as part of a buildup that would total 21,500 soldiers and Marines.Asked by Sen. John Warner, R-Va., why he had not requested the full five extra brigades that Bush is sending, Casey said, "I did not want to bring one more American soldier into Iraq than was necessary to accomplish the mission."With many in Congress opposing or skeptical of Bush's troop buildup, Casey did not say he opposed the president's decision.
