Isis Frontman Joins Black Metal Supergroup Twilight
2006 may forever be known as the year metal crossed over-- or, at least, the year metal ransacked the casual indie listener's iPod. It was at Pitchfork, anyway: Mastodon's Blood Mountain entered the hallowed halls of Pitchfork's Best New Music section, songs and records from Nachtmystium, Agalloch, and Gojira drew considerable praise from our writers, and, last June, the website inaugurated its first monthly metal column, Brandon Stosuy's "Show No Mercy". For kids who like their coffee black and their metal blacker, good news: Battle Kommand black metal overlords Nachtmystium and Twilight (featuring Nachtmystium frontman Blake "Azentrius" Judd and members of Isis, Leviathan, Krieg, and Draugar) each have new releases in the pipes for 2007. First up, Twilight have parted ways with bandmate Malefic (aka Xasthur).
HCE Declares Quarterly Dividend
LISLE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Fiduciary/Claymore Dynamic Equity Fund (NYSE: HCE) today declared its quarterly dividend of $0.425 per share. This represents an annualized distribution rate of 8.57% based upon the closing market price of $19.84 on January 31, 2007. Since the Fund's inception on April 29, 2005 through January 31, 2007 the Fund generated an average annual total return, including reinvestment of dividends, of 9.92% based on Net Asset Value (NAV) and 7.68% based on market price. This compares to a 15.30% total return of the Fund's benchmark, the S&P 500 Index. The Fund's one year total return, as of January 31, 2007 was 5.07% based on NAV and 16.62% based on market price. Researchers find pancreatic cancer stem cells
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Researchers have discovered a small population of stem cells in pancreatic cancer that appear to drive tumor growth, opening the door for a potential new approach for treating this particularly deadly disease. Writing in the journal Cancer Research on Thursday, University of Michigan scientists said finding cancer stem cells in pancreatic tumors could lead to the development of drugs intended to target and kill these cells. Scientists have toiled with little success to find better ways to treat cancer of the pancreas, which has the lowest survival rate of any major form of cancer. It kills 97 percent of people in whom it is diagnosed within five years -- half within six months of diagnosis. Pancreatic cancer spreads quickly and is rarely is detected at an early stage.
