Aberro minimizes labor in software testing
More than 80 percent of software is tested manually, but a small company called Aberro Software hopes to change that. Engineers at Aberro, which is headquartered in Rockville, Md., have created a way to test software with a platform that extracts information from target applications, eliminating the need to write scripts to conduct testing. According to Doug Smith, the CEO of Aberro, writing such scripts can take as long as writing the applications themselves, but “Aberro finds bugs in software applications without the hassle of writing a script." ANGLE Technology Ventures, which provided the seed capital for Aberro, searched the United States for new disruptive technologies and selected the software testing concept from a group of 12 emerging IT technologies. Aberro was founded in August 2005 by Smith and inventors Dr.
Group to research Colfax Riot history
COLFAX -- There's no mention of scalawags. Perhaps carpetbaggers seemed more polite when the sign commemorating the Colfax Riot was set on the courthouse lawn in 1950. "I think the sign was originally supposed to say 'scalawags,'" Glynn Maxwell said. .
Courier News Online - Bears still manage family-run flavor under McCaskey
MIAMI -- Her role as owner was never something she sought. Her status among the rich and powerful was never something she pursued. Virginia McCaskey realizes she reached this point only because she happened to be the daughter of Papa Bear, the late George Halas. Football, quite literally, has been and always will be in her blood. And what better way to honor her father's legacy than to win -- and win big. The 83-year-old matriarch and grand dame of the NFL will be in the spotlight Sunday when her beloved Chicago Bears meet the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl at Dolphin Stadium. "It's very, very important," McCaskey said last week in a rare interview. "We're enjoying all the privileges and perks that go along with ownership, but we have to keep reminding ourselves we really didn't do anything to earn this.
Scholastic art, writing awards winners on exhibit
Celebrating its 84th year, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards exhibition will be held Friday through Feb. 15 in the Marx Studio Building, 516 Madison Ave., Covington. This is the longest-running student art awards program of its kind. More than 4,700 pieces of art by artists in grades 7 to 12 from 10 counties in Southern Ohio and six counties in Northern Kentucky were submitted for award consideration. A panel of judges selected about 600 pieces for the exhibit, which includes painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, ceramics and glass, computer art, printmaking, sculpture, animation, video and film and the design categories - apparel, graphic, jewelry, product and plans and models. More than 300 Senior Art & Photography Portfolios were submitted for scholarship consideration.
This year’s Oscar nominees know no boundaries
Until last week, Barraza, who is Mexican, and Kikuchi, who is Japanese, were virtually unknown in the States: Today, they are Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actress. Ironically, one of their competitors is Blanchett, nominated for "Notes on a Scandal." But all will probably lose out to another first-time nominee, "Dreamgirls'" Jennifer Hudson, whose rendition of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" is reason enough to buy a ticket for the film. "Dreamgirls," a lavish, glitzy production made within the studio system, had long been earmarked as the movie to beat for Best Picture this year. But despite a leading eight nominations (including Best Supporting Actor for first-time nominee Eddie Murphy), it didn't make the cut. Neither did Clint Eastwood's pedigreed World War II drama "Flags of Our Fathers," which has Steven Spielberg as a producer and is based on a highly acclaimed nonfiction bestseller.
