Singletary to interview with Cowboys
The Hall of Fame linebacker will interview Jan. 30 with team owner Jerry Jones. He'll become the eighth candidate considered to replace Bill Parcells. Best known for his ferocious play with the Chicago Bears, Singletary is a Houston native who played college football at Baylor. He has been coaching in the NFL since 2003, spending two years with Baltimore and the past two with the San Francisco 49ers. Another 49ers assistant, offensive coordinator Norv Turner, has been viewed as the front-runner in Dallas, but he returned to the Bay Area following his interview Jan. 28. The Cowboys already have hired Jason Garrett and are considering him for the head coaching job or likely will make him offensive coordinator. Defensive coordinators Wade Phillips of San Diego and Gary Gibbs of New Orleans also are being considered.
ANALYSIS - Climate change doom reports don't stack up
LONDON (Reuters) - Behind the picture of a serious climate change threat, painted in a U.N. report to be published on Friday, just how fast mankind can act remains unsure. "There are so many reports," said Fatih Birol, chief economist at the International Energy Agency and author of one of the biggest, the IEA's 596-page World Energy Outlook 2006. "Some are much more in-depth, some have a different focus. The thing is how much they link with reality." Inconsistencies abound -- a European Commission study for instance contradicts the EU's executive stated policy. Friday's report by the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), follows on the heels of a clutch of papers in the past four months, all predicting different shades of gloom but no consensus on cost and urgency.

The Heard-Craig Center for the Arts will offer another program in its art history series from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Heard-Craig Carriage House, 205-1/2 W. Hunt Street in McKinney.There is no charge to attend the series.The lectures are presented by Annie Royer who has been a studio and decorative painter/muralist for 16 years. Royer has a fine arts degree from Austin College; and has earned three master's degrees from Yale University, in religion and the visual arts, East Asian studies and the history of art.Upcoming programs will profile the art of the Baroque period and always include a slide presentation. The programs are designed to fit within a lunch hour so that even the busiest person can attend. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch.The free programs are held on the first Wednesday of each month throughout the year.
Dairy Processors Deeply Disappointed With Administration's Farm Bill Proposal
The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) expressed deep disappointment with the Bush administration's 2007 Farm Bill proposal that was unveiled today. The proposal continues to maintain the Dairy Price Support Program, and embraces the Milk Income Loss Contract (MILC) program, a poorly conceived, regionally divisive payment program linked to price and production. "The administration's proposal keeps dairy policies stuck in the 1930s and '40s," said Chip Kunde, IDFA senior vice president. "While boldly suggesting a new, healthier direction for other commodities, the administration's plan fails to do so for dairy." Perhaps most disappointing, according to Kunde, is the administration's failure to address current flaws in the Dairy Price Support Program.
