The case of the missing bed bugs - an update
I have not allowed those things to bite me, and as I knew would happen, they moved out. I have also been killing quite a few bed bugs, trapping them in glue traps, drowning them in stainless steel bowls of water with disinfectant at the bottom of my bed posts. I have taken all my stuff outside and left it in weather where the wind chill factor brought the temperature down to minus 50 below zero, and froze all the bed bugs to death, thus allowing me to have access to my possessions once again. (Before this, I had every thing sealed and wrapped and was waiting for one and half years to pass before the bed bugs finally dropped dead for sure, since that is how long it takes, but as it worked out, I only had to wait about three days - one would probably have been enough, but I kept everything out in the deep freeze for three days, just to make sure).
Bekah Zeitz
Suicide Squeeze maven Bekah Zietz balances her knowledge of sports stats with a good dose of celebrity gossip, touts her dad as her label's top street teamer, and is so busy pushing bands that she's forgotten what a lunch break is. So what is it, exactly, you'd say you do over there at Suicide Squeeze Records? My official title is "label manager," but that is really just a fancy name for "professional multitasker." Basically, I handle all of the in-house radio, press, and tour and video marketing for the label. This means at any given point during the day, you will find me e-mailing a music editor, talking to a radio station on the phone, and IM-ing with 10 to 20 other people at essentially the same time. How did you get sucked into this whirlpool of aural delights? College radio! Although I have always been a lover of music, it wasn't until my freshman year of college, when I started working for my college radio station, that my love affair with music truly began.
Writing for the stage
In the past, Ithaca College Theatre's Main Stage seasons have included works by William Shakespeare, Mozart and Anton Chekhov. When "The Count of Monte Cristo" opens in April, senior Brett Boles will join that list. Boles began writing the musical, based on Alexandre Dumas' classic novel, five years ago. He said he is excited about watching his work be performed. "I came in freshman year knowing that this was going to be my big project for the four years, knowing that ultimately I wanted it to be performed here in some capacity," he said. Greg Woodward, Boles' music composition professor and mentor for the past four years, is glad to see the college take on such a project. "It's a courageous and, I think, really great undertaking by the college to support a student here, to give the students of the theater department a chance to create brand new roles that have never been done before," Woodward said.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Sydney Sheldon had a prolific and award-winning career writing for theater, movies and television, but he often proclaimed his greatest love for another creative outlet. ''Writing novels is the most fun I've ever had,'' Sheldon once said. The best-selling author died Tuesday at 89 of complications from pneumonia at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. His wife Alexandra was by his side. ''I try to write my books so the reader can't put them down,'' Sheldon explained in a 1982 interview. ''I try to construct them so when the reader gets to the end of a chapter, he or she has to read just one more chapter.
Grade school in Stokes gets SMART
An elementary school in Stokes County is providing its students with an interactive tool in hopes that it will help them become life-long learners and critical thinkers. Francisco Elementary School has installed SMART Boards, whiteboards with touch-sensitive displays that connect to computers and digital projectors, in each of its classrooms. Lloyd and Rachel Collins, former educators in Stokes County - a principal and teacher - left money to the school, which was used to buy most of the boards. The school will have a dedication ceremony for the boards at 1:30 p.m. today. "With this new technology, we are trying to provide a great educational tool that stimulates students and helps students learn to think critically," said Gerald Jones, the principal at Francisco Elementary.
