Originally from Ohio, Lynch came to this area to take a university teaching job, but soured on academia and one day 20 years ago showed up to apply for a job at Social and Scientific, then in Bethesda. The young company needed someone to manage its proposal section and pursue federal contracts. ‘‘It was a great leap of faith," said Lynch, 55. ‘‘But I had done technical writing and actually it turned out to be a pretty good fit." He learned the management and business development end of the business so well he eventually rose through the executive ranks. In the fall, he was picked to succeed the much-respected Mary Frances leMat as the new president and CEO of an employee-owned company with annual revenues of more than $115 million. The Business Gazette talked to Lynch recently about his company’s mission and his transition from academia to the boardroom.
Arts council hosts grant-writing seminars
The Dutchess County Arts Council is hosting free application seminars for $18,000 in grants for Arts in Education projects in Dutchess and Ulster counties. Grants, which generally range between $500 and $2,500, may be used for artists' fees, supplies and materials, travel and transportation costs, professional development/technical assistance fees and facility fees. Ideas for projects may be original or may be replicated from other Arts in Education programs. Public, private, parochial and charter schools serving grades pre K-12 as well as nonprofit organizations based in Dutchess and Ulster counties that have educational partners are eligible to apply. The seminars are as follows: Jan. 31, 2:30-3:30 p.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m.; Millbrook High School, 70 Church St., Millbrook.
